This month I have two exciting giveaways dealing with heart health and it is appropriate because Valentine's day is February 14 and its also Heart month. My first giveaway deals with increasing the amount of fiber in your diet.
I suffer from hypothyroidism so I have to make sure that I take in at least 25 grams of fiber a day. To start off my morning, I usually have a Fiber bar and a piece of fruit, that gives me 12 grams right away. Why is fiber important in one's diet? Here are a few reasons why:
- Lower risk of developing colon cancer. Fiber sweeps carcinogens out of the intestines and triggers beneficial chemical reactions in the digestive tract
- Lower cholesterol. Fiber binds with the so called bad cholesterol and flushes it out of the body
- Decreased appetite. Fiber rich foods make you feel full without the extra calories
- It keeps you regular(bowel movements)
One of my go to products for fiber is the Fiber One breakfast bars and brownies. They are very delicious, especially the brownies if you want a treat.
